The Circuit Moulay el Hassan, named in honour of the Crown Prince of Morocco, is a semi-permanent circuit in the Agdal hotel district of Marrakech.

The circuit’s origins lie in a street circuit created for the 2009 FIA World Touring Car Championship. More than 2,500 concrete blocks were used for the barriers of the original 4.6 km circuit.

The original track, designed by D3 Motorsport Development, ran parallel with parts of the walls of the famous Agdal Gardens UNESCO World Heritage site.

After omission from the WTCC calendar due to financial challenges in 2011, the event returned in 2012.

A complete redesign was undertaken in 2016, with input from the renowned circuit designer Hermann Tilke, creating a new 3 km, and now semi-permanent, FIA Grade 2 configuration.

The new layout, fundamentally very different but using the same pitlane and paddock, is much twistier than the original high-speed version, resulting in more challenges in overtaking.

World Touring Cars was set to visit again in 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the event. Touring car racing has yet to return to the African circuit, which has continued to host FIA Formula E races.
